Mexico Divert Crude Exports to Refineries to End Foreign Dependence

Petroleos Mexicanos will divert crude oil to its Texas refinery instead of exporting abroad as part of a government aim to end foreign fuels dependency.

  • Energy Minister Rocio Nahle said about 700kbpd of current Pemex exports will be sent to the Deer Park refinery in Texas and the Dos Bocas refinery in Tabasco state.
  • “We have to be self-sufficient,” she said adding that the aim is to end oil exports by December 2023.
  • They could struggle for self-sufficiency in domestic gasoline with Deer Park currently sending product output to US and not Mexico according to data from Pemex.
  • Nahle said that Pemex is expected to have produced about 1.62mbpd of crude in November
