MEXICO: Judges Vote to End Strike, Finance Minister Met with CEO’s in New York
MEXICO
- A Mexican federal judges association voted to end a nearly two-month strike, resuming activities on Oct. 16, but will maintain some protest actions against the Morena party’s judicial reform.
- All judges are committed to “the defense of our human rights, separation of powers and the strengthening of the rule of law,” JUFED’s national directors said in the Oct. 11 statement.
- The group called on the Supreme Court to protect “fundamental rights” when it rules on the judicial reform.
- Separately late last week, Finance Minister Rogelio Ramírez de la O met with two prominent American CEOs in New York on Thursday, seemingly signalling that the new federal government intends to be very proactive in seeking new investment in Mexico. Ramírez met separately with JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, according to Bloomberg News, which cited unnamed people with knowledge of the meetings.
