MEXICO: Sheinbaum Says Election Of Judges Will Take Place In June 2025

  • At her daily press conference on Monday, President Sheinbaum said that she will put forward electoral reforms regarding the election of judges to congress next year. Sheinbaum said that she has signed a set of secondary laws to reform the country’s electoral law that will allow the government to solve any problem.
  • As part of the proposals announced, the Senate will begin the process of electing judges from October 15, according to Ernestina Godoy, legal advisor to the Presidency. All three branches of the government will have a five person committee to review the candidates for judges.
  • These evaluation committees will start working from the end of the month and the Senate will send the final list of candidates to the National Electoral Institute on Feb 12 next year. The election of the judges will take place on June 1, 2025.
