Microsoft To Seek To Buy All TikTok's Global Business: FT

FT reporting that Microsoft is seeking to buy all of Chinese social media platform's global business, including its operations in Europe and India. This would not include TikTok's Chinese equivalent Douyin.

  • Comes after news at the weekend that the US tech giant was seeking to buy the North America and Australasian arms of the platform, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance.
  • The platform has become part of a geopolitical war of words between the US and China, with US President Donald Trump saying whoever purchased the platform would have to pay a 'substantial' sum to the Treasury.
  • The UK is also involved, with ByteDance looking to move their HQ to London, something that could be scuppered by a Microsoft buyout.
