Wires reporting that according to two Israeli security sources, the IDF has carried out a sizeable airstrike on the Dahiya neighbourhood in southern Beirut. The target is supposedly a top Hezbollah military commander. The Dahiya suburbs are seen as a stronghold of Hezbollah in the Lebanese capital. The Hezbollah-aligned Al-Manar TV network claims that the strike caused a number of fatalities and injuries in the vicinity.
- Such an attack would mark a differentiation in tactics, away from the large-scale and indiscriminate pager/walkie-talkie detonations carried out earlier this week and the airstrikes on Hezbollah rocket launcher sites recorded overnight, and back towards a more specific 'decapitation strategy' of taking out senior Hezbollah figures, as seen in the killing of key military adviser Fuad Shukr in July.
- Ali Hashem at Al Jazeera posts on X: "The target of Israel’s assassination in Beirut southern suburb IS NOT Hezbollah deputy secretary general Naim Qassim, a source tells me."
