Milei Says Ex-BCRA Chief Has Capability To Be Economy Minister

  • President-elect Javier Milei said Wednesday night in a television interview to a local channel that the former president of the central bank Luis Caputo has the expertise to be the next government’s economy minister. Although he did not name him economic chief, Milei didn’t deny that Caputo was participating in meetings between his transition team and the International Monetary Fund.
  • Milei, known for his radical libertarian views, has expressed his thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his congratulatory message following the election victory. This surprising move suggests a significant softening in Milei’s previously stringent approach towards China’s regime. Analysts have also noted that local stocks extending gains are in response to Milei’s statements in the last 48 hours projecting a calm, austere and more restrained figure.
  • Separately, the IMF’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva extended her congratulations to Argentina’s president-elect Javier Milei following his victory in Sunday’s election run-off. Georgieva went on to express her enthusiasm for working with Milei.
