Miners' Outlook Brightens as PGMs Face Medium-Term Net Supply Deficit

PRECIOUS METALS
  • PGM miners face an improving outlook as Sibanye Stillwater forecasts a widening net deficit in the supply of platinum, Rhodium & Palladium over the medium-term.
  • This follows on from a 2020 deficit of 390 Koz, 610 Koz and 80 Koz for Platinum, Rhodium and palladium respectively.
  • Metals analyst anticipates platinum's price to build an overall positive trajectory over the next five years (or so), supported by its use as a catalyst in fuel cells.

  • Likewise, palladium's strong price performance is likely to prevail at least for the next few years as net deficit is likely to persist.

  • Similarly, Rhodium's net deficit is also expected to ramp-up over the next few years based on anticipated growth in auto demand
