The major regional equity markets traded mixed in Asia-Pac hours, with worries surrounding the scope for the U.S. to widen its clampdown on Chinese tech names doing the rounds, which weighed on both the Hang Seng and mainland Chinese markets.

  • Elsewhere, state media reports pointing to warnings against vendors re: overpricing practices surrounding products made by Chinese equity giant Kweichow Moutai, the second time that the name has made a notable appearance on the front pages in recent weeks.
  • The materials and energy sectors propped up the ASX 200, which outperformed its major regional counterparts. Materials were supported by the latest uptick in iron ore prices.
  • E-minis trade mixed.• Nikkei 225 -0.3%, Hang Seng -1.6%, CSI 300 -0.9%, ASX 200 +0.3%.
