US TSYS: Mixed takes re: Sino-U.S. trade war matters saw T-Notes off Friday's
peak, but off early Asia lows, last +0-04 at 129-26. Cash Tsys are closed 'til
London hours owing to Japanese hols. An unexp. cancellation of the touted
Chinese o'ffl trip to the U.S. farmlands triggered risk-off flows late Fri,
although NYT sources subsequently played this down, suggesting that the Chinese
side wanted to avoid a media circus, while BBG sources said the move came at the
request of the U.S. TR. The cancellation came after Trump noted that he wouldn't
be interested in a "partial" trade deal & that he doesn't need a deal before the
'20 election. The off'l Chinese & U.S. s'ments pointed to the constructive
nature of the jnr ministerial level talks. Elsewhere, there was news that the
U.S. will temporarily exempt > 400 types of Chinese goods from tariffs.
- Geopols helped to put a base on the space overnight. Friday saw the Pentagon
announce that it will deploy troops to the M. East, at the request of Saudi &
there were WSJ warnings of a follow-up strike from Iran. A -ve session for
Chinese equities, based on Trump's comments, also helped the space off lows.
- Flash PMIs headline today, with Fed's Williams, Daly & Bullard all due up.
