MNI BRIEF: China Urges U.S. To Stop Suppressing Chinese Firms

China will act to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, and the U.S. should stop abusing state power to suppress them, said Shu Jueting, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Commerce at a briefing on Thursday.

Beijing opposes Washington's move to include Chinese companies on its list of communications equipment and service providers deemed threats to U.S. national security, restricting their market access, said Shu, after China Telecom (Americas) Corp and China Mobile International USA were added to the list last week.

Answering reporter questions, Shu also said it was hoped the U.S. will meet China halfway by adopting a more rational and pragmatic economic and trade policy. The working teams of both sides maintain normal communication, Shu added.
