MNI BRIEF: Aussie Debt Funding Agency Gets New CEO
Anna Hughes has been appointed the chief executive of the Australian Office of Financial Management, replacing 11-year veteran Rob Nicholl.
Hughes, who is currently South Australia's Deputy Under Treasurer, becomes the first woman to lead the organisation in its 23-year history, said Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers. She will begin her new role on January 16, 2023.
The AOFM's role is to ensure Canberra can meet its spending, investment and debt payment obligations, offering advice to the government about associated financial risks, whilst also borrowing money on behalf of the Commonwealth via the issuance of Australian Government Securities.
