MNI BRIEF: BOE MPC Haskel Open To More Stimulus

LONDON (MNI)

Risks to the UK economy are "very much to the downside" despite the rapid rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee member Jonathan Haskel said Wednesday, noting that he was open to the idea of adding more stimulus.

In his annual report to the Treasury Select Committee, Haskel highlighted downside risks including steeply rising unemployment, economic scarring and capital scrapping in the hardest hit sectors.

Fellow members Gertjan Vlieghe and Michael Saunders have also highlighted risks to growth and inflation from the labour market.
