MNI BRIEF: BOE Tenreyro: Negative Rates Can Fall To -0.75%

LONDON (MNI)

It is possible that the Bank of England's Bank Rate could go as low as at least minus 75 basis points, Monetary Policy Committee member Silvana Tenreryo said Monday.

Laying out her own views in a speech, she added that whether it could fall even further would depend on technology and policy innovation. Even if negative rates were not used in this downturn they may well be required sooner or later with Bank Rate so low due to structural factors, she said in a question and answer session.
