Bank of Japan board member Seiji Adachi said on Wednesday that maintaining easy policy aimed at realising the 2% price target is the best option right now given current economic and financial conditions.

“Japan’s prices will likely continue rising but I'm not confident of achieving the price target that the BOJ is aiming for,” Adachi told business leaders in Toyama City.

He added that the pace of price rises is faster than he expected but “Japan is still halfway from achieving the 2% price target.”

Adachi pointed out the importance of wage hikes and higher growth expectations of businesses to achieve the price target in a stable and sustainable manner.
