MNI BRIEF: BOJ ETF Buys Ease Unstable Markets Impact: Kuroda

TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan's purchases of ETFs are effective in easing the impact of unstable financial markets on overall confidence, Governor Haruhiko Kuroda told lawmakers Friday. Kuroda declined to comment on any view he has to the Nikkei's current level or the fact the BOJ appears to be buying ETFs with stock prices high.

Kuroda's comments come in the same week that former BOJ chief economists Kazuo Momma and Kenzo Yamamoto told MNI the ETF policy should be reconsidered and amended.
