MNI BRIEF: Brussels Readies For Targeted Brexit Contingencies

LONDON (MNI)

Brussels has put in place a targeted set of contingency measure to ensure basic reciprocal air and road will continue from January 1, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Thursday. The EC will continue to do its 'utmost' to reach an agreement with the UK, there is now significant uncertainty whether a deal will be in place for the start of the new year, she added.

The aim of these contingency measures, aimed largely at travel and fisheries, is 'to cater for the period during which there is no agreement in place. If no agreement enters into application, they will end after a fixed period,' a statement from the EC said.
