MNI BRIEF: China Financial Super Regulator Head Announced

MNI (Beijing)

Li Yunze has been appointed as the head of China’s new financial super regulator, by the CPC Central Committee, a statement posted on the China Banking and Regulatory Commission (CBRC) website said.

Li will become Secretary of the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA), after serving as the Vice Governor of Sichuan Province since 2021. He previously held senior positions at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Announced in March, the NFRA removes some micro supervision tasks from the People's Bank of China and will allow the central bank to focus on monetary policy and macroprudential issues like financial stability, an advisor has previously told MNI.
