MNI BRIEF: China Hopes France to Push CAI Ratification

BEIJING (MNI)

China hopes France will play "an active role" in promoting the ratification of the China-E.U. Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said Tuesday during a meeting with Franck Riester, the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, according to an official statement published on Wednesday.

The EU Parliament voted to halt discussions on the bilateral investment deal after China sanctioned several congress members over the Xinjiang issue. Chinese government advisors previously told MNI that they expected the ratification process to be frozen until France takes the EU presidency in 2022.
