MNI BRIEF: China To Take Reciprocal Sanction On U.S. Officials

China will impose reciprocal sanctions against U.S. executive officials, congressmen, NGO staff, and their immediate family members who have intervened on Hong Kong-related issues, Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

This follows U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's announcement on Monday imposing travel bans and other sanctions on 14 top officials in China's legislature over the body's enforcement of a controversial national security law on Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, China has decided to cancel the visa-free treatment for temporary visits to Hong Kong and Macau by U.S. diplomatic passport holders, said Hua, adding that China urges the US to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong and China's internal affairs.
