The EU Commission said Monday it was "analysing" the impact of the AUKUS announcement for the the next round of talks on an EU-Australia FTA, following comments made by a French minister over the weekend, saying that such an FTA was now "unthinkable".
"At the end of the last round with Australia in June, it was agreed the next round would take place in October. We are analysing the impact of the AUKUS announcement and what it could be on this schedule," a Commission official said. The official said that EU-27 foreign ministers would discuss the implications of the AUKUS at a traditional dinner meeting, which will take place on the margins of the UN General Assembly In New York tonight.
