MNI BRIEF: EC Pushes Ahead Imposing Duties On China EVs
MNI (BRUSSELS) - The European Commission has agreed to impose definitive countervailing duties on China-made electric vehicle imports for five years, it said Tuesday.
The duties will become effective in the next day or two, the Commission said, adding that it would in parallel continue its negotiations with the Chinese government, China EV makers and China’s Chamber of Commerce to try and find a non-tariff solution to the dispute -- talks are ongoing, but no end agreement appears in sight yet. The discussions are focusing on a voluntary minimum price undertaking on the Chinese side. Differences between the EC and China include the level of any such price and the design of the undertaking to ensure it can be enforced.
