MNI BRIEF: EC Reviews Estonia Economic Imbalances

The EU Commission is to launch a review of economic imbalances in Estonia.

MNI (LONDON) - The European Commission will open an in-depth review into Estonia's economic imbalances, citing its weakening cost competitiveness, worsening current account position and high inflation. 

The results of the IDR will likely be published sometime in the first half of 2025. Nine EU countries are on the current macroeconomic imbalances list: Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden. Reviews of the latter will also be undertaken in order to check whether their economic imbalances are corrected, improving or worsening.
