MNI BRIEF: ECB Lagarde Sees Mid Forecast Range As 'Well Ahead'

Explaining the Governing Council's thinking around the updated forward guidance, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said Thursday that 'Well Ahead' as a time frame should be seen as the mid-point of the projection horizon. As to durably, she said that would mean inflation could not fall consistently below the 2% target.

Lagarde said there had been no unanimity, as she had previously suggested, but said the clarity of the statement could become clearer as it was 'unpacked'.
