MNI BRIEF: ECB Projects Inflation Below Target in 2023

(MNI) London

European Central Bank staff projections see inflation higher in 2021 than seen just three months ago, but they are still seen well below target in 2023, albeit slightly higher than projected in June.

The latest projections point to inflation of 2.2% in 2021, 1.7% in 2022 and 1.5% in 2023 -- with the two year horizon nudging higher from 1.4% seen before the summer. All through Thursday's press conference, President Christine Lagarde underlined that higher prices currently seen across Europe are transitory and higher prices rises will slow NEXT YEAR.
