MNI BRIEF: ECB's Lane Sees Recovery From Mid-Year

LONDON (MNI)

In an interview with Greek TV station Skai, European Central Bank chief economist Philip Lane says the Euro area economy will not return to pre-pandemic levels until at least the summer of 2022, with many restrictions continuing to hamper the recovery this year.

But he is optimistic that the pick-up will start from the middle of the current year.

"Over the course of the year, as the vaccination programmes are rolled out, we think the economy can grow quite quickly. So there will be a lot of recovery later this year and next year," he said.
