MNI BRIEF: EU Says Ready To Purchase More U.S Energy
MNI (LONDON) - Responding to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's threat of tariffs unless the bloc buys LNG and oil from the US on a "large scale", The European Commission said there is significant scope to diversify its energy supplies
"We are ready to discuss with President-elect Trump how we can further strengthen an already strong relationship including by discussing our common interests in the energy sector," EU Commission Trade Spokesperson Olof Gill said, adding that the EU is committed to phasing out energy imports from Russia and diversifying supply.
"The EU has a substantial trade-in-goods surplus with U.S., whereas the US has a substantial trade-in-services surplus with the EU," Gill noted. (See MNI: Beijing To Court Closer EU Ties Under Trump)
