MNI BRIEF: EU Vaccine Row With AstraZeneca Rumbles On

BRUSSELS (MNI)

The European Union has continued to push back against drug manufacturer AstraZeneca on delayed delivery of Covid-19 vaccines, with one senior bloc official saying all 27 countries are united that the firm needs to fulfill its commitments. AstraZeneca's delays are "against the letter and spirit of the agreement," Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said Wednesday, as she called on the manufacturer to "live up to its contractual, societal and moral obligations."

Regarding the export of vaccines manufactured in the EU to other parts of the work, Kyriakides said the EU "is not proposing export restrictions on vaccines," adding that the EU is proposing greater transparency on vaccine deliveries by pharma companies.
