MNI BRIEF: Eurogroup Fiscal Stance Update Unlikely On July 12

MNI BRIEF: EU Commission Ups Growth Outlook, Inflation Lags
(MNI) Brussels

The Eurogroup is unlikely to issue a new statement on the euro zone's fiscal stance at its meeting on Monday, a senior EU official said Thursday. Noting the "significant upward" revision in the economic growth outlook by the European Commission on Wednesday, the official said – "I would think the March Eurogroup statement still adequately reflects the situation."

"There is no need for a further fiscal stimulus," he said

The official also said that that the topic of reform of the EU's fiscal rules was not on the agenda of Monday's meeting but said he would not be surprised if some ministers wanted to broach the issue. ECB President Christine Lagarde is set to update the meeting on the ECB's strategy review at the July 12 meeting
