LONDON (MNI)

The household savings rate in the euro area rose to 19.8% in Q4 2020, marking the second highest level since records began in 1999, data published Friday by Eurostat showed. The highest level was seen in Q2 2020 at 25.0%, before it declined to 17.3% in Q3 2020. The report noted that the increase in the savings rate is explained by a steeper decline of consumption (-3.7%) than households' gross disposable income (-0.8%).

The household investment rate increased further to 9.1% in Q4 2020, up from 8.7% recorded in Q3 and showing the highest level since 2011. Meanwhile, the business profit share rose to 40.4% in Q4 and the business investment rate ticked up to 23.4%.
