Powell responds to question from MNI

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Thursday the central bank would not welcome a persistent undershoot of the 2% inflation goal under the FOMC's flexible average inflation target framework.

"We did not think it would be appropriate to deliberately undershoot," Powell said in response to a question from MNI. "Part of the problem there is that low inflation can be a problem too. That's not part of our framework and it's not something we're going to be looking at in our framework."
