MNI BRIEF: Fed's Collins Says Inflation May Have Peaked

Boston Fed President Susan Collins Monday said recent data suggest inflation may have peaked recently, while adding that she still sees the need to expeditiously raise interest rates and continue the central bank's QT program.

"it's quite likely that inflation is near peaking and perhaps may have peaked already," she said. "Some of those supply bottleneck challenges we've seen [are] abating." Collins said she is expecting slower economic growth next year and a modest rise in the unemployment rate.

Atlanta Fed research director David Altig told MNI Friday the Federal Reserve's aggressive monetary tightening campaign has so far made scant difference in easing or narrowing U.S. inflation pressures.
