MNI BRIEF: G7 To Issue One-Page Communique On Afghanistan

(MNI) Brussels

Leaders from the G7 industrialized nations will hold a video conference at 1530CET this afternoon under the UK presidency to discuss the Afghanistan situation and officials expect to release a one-page communique following the discussion. A senior EU official said talks would focus on coordinating evacuation operations and humanitarian aid, conditions for engaging in talks with the new Taliban government and sharing information on migration and resettlement.

The official said conditions included human rights, especially for women, young girls and other vulnerable groups, not allowing terrorist operations to be based in the country and measures against drug trafficking.

It was 'too early' to discuss sanctions against the Taliban regime, but added that all "options are on the table" dependent on how the new government behaves, the official said. The official said around '400 plus' had been evacuated from the EU mission, including local staff and their families. The official said that a G7 press conference would be held around 1700CET today
