MNI BRIEF: Green Govt Bonds Needed For Low Carbon Transition

The issuance of green government bonds will be an important joint effort by fiscal and financial policymakers to push the low-carbon transition of China's economy, said Wang Xin, director of the People’s Bank of China research bureau, at the Bund Summit in Shanghai sponsored by the China Finance 40 Forum on Saturday.

Some countries have set up sound mechanisms for green government bond issuance that are worthy of reference in China, Wang noted at the launch of a research report on green finance.

The central bank's structural monetary tools can contribute to the green transition, Wang said, pointing out that fiscal policies could provide support through public investment, subsidies and government procurement.
