MNI BRIEF: Inflation Risks "Broadly Balanced"-EU's Gentiloni

(MNI) Brussels

Risks to inflation are now “broadly balanced”, with the main risk remaining a potential surge in energy prices, Europe’s Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said on Wednesday following the release of the Commission’s Autumn Forecasts.
Spot and futures prices do not point currently to any spike as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, but should the conflict escalate there could be “potential spillovers for energy prices and the path of declining inflation,” Gentiloni said.

Commission forecasts earlier saw average eurozone inflation at 5.6% across 2023, 3.2% across 2024 and 2.2% across 2025.
