(MNI) LONDON
(MNI) London

Italian consumer confidence stretched to a multi-decade high in September, rising to 119.6 from 116.2 in August, according to data released on Friday by Istat. That's the the strongest reading since January of 1998.

Readings for the economic, personal and future climate all increased in the month, with just the current climate index declining in September.

However, business confidence declined slightly, to 113.8 from 114.0 in August. Retail trade accounted for much of the weakness, slumping to 106.8 from 113.6, while manufacturing fell slightly. Construction and market services both rose in September.
