MNI BRIEF: UK Retail Sales Fall As Lockdown Hits Home

UK retail sales struggled in January, recording the worst performance since May as total sales fell 1.3% y/y, as a national lockdown 'hit the traditional January sales period,' according to Paul Martin, UK Head of Retail at KPMG.

"With much of the UK in lockdown for the foreseeable weeks, conditions for retailers will continue to be incredibly challenging," he added.
