MNI BRIEF: Japan Feb Jobless Rate Unchanged At 2.9%

Japan's average unemployment rate stood at a seasonally-adjusted 2.9% in February, unchanged from January's 2.9%, according to data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Tuesday.

The total number of employed rose 30,000 (+0.0%) m/m in February, after rising 110,000 (+0.2%) in January, and the number of unemployed totaled 2.03 million in February, unchanged from January.

The job-to-applicant ratio, a leading indicator of the employment market, stood at 1.09 in February, down from 1.10 in January for the first fall in five months, according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

February's data showed that the labour market conditions worsened in the wake of the state of emergency announced in January.
