MNI BRIEF: Japan FinMin Aso Supports Second Asakawa ADB Term

TOKYO (MNI)

Japan will 'strongly support' Masatsugu Asakawa serving another term as the president of the Asian Development Bank Finance Minister Taro Aso said in a statement published Monday. Asakawa earlier confirmed his intention to continue serve a second term when the current one ends on Nov 23.

"For ADB's developing member countries to achieve the reconstruction from the Covid-19 pandemic, I believe that the ADB should continue to play a central role under the strong leadership of Mr. Asakawa," Aso said, adding that Japan is ready to "further cooperate" with the ADB to develop the Asia-Pacific region."
