MNI BRIEF: Many Tools To Gauge Market Pricing- BCB Campos Neto
MNI (BRASILIA) - Brazil's central bank governor, Roberto Campos Neto, said Thursday that the monetary authority doesn't rely solely on the Focus survey as a thermometer for what the market is pricing in terms of interest rates.
"The central bank doesn’t just use a thermometer to gauge market pricing. It has internal models and projections. The central bank looks at inflation rates through our research with the private sector, not only the financial market. We have many tools, and we consider all of them," he said during a G20 press conference in Washington, D.C.
"What we have repeatedly said is that the central bank is focused on achieving its goal of bringing inflation back to the target. We will do whatever it takes to meet the target. If at some point we see a difference in market pricing, sometimes the Focus survey diverges from what the market understands as reality," he added when asked by MNI.
