MNI BRIEF: Markets Inflation Fears May Be Wrong: Fed Kaplan

LONDON (MNI)

Financial markets may be getting ahead of themselves with fears of runaway inflation, Dallas Fed President Rob Kaplan told MNI in an interview published Friday, although he accepted the need for central bank vigilance as the future path could be more difficult to forecast.

Addressing market positioning, Kaplan said "I note it, am cognizant of it, but I also know how things unfold may not happen the way markets are suggesting". Acknowledging that accommodative monetary and fiscal monetary policy, along with some supply constraints, would firm prices for a while, he said technological disruption, is likely to sap firms' power to raise prices over the longer run.
