MNI BRIEF: Move to Neutral Bigger Issue Than 50BP Debate-Evans

(MNI) OTTAWA
DETROIT (MNI)

Chicago Fed President Charles Evans said Thursday he's comfortable with quarter-point rate hikes giving the FOMC more time to assess inflation and geopolitical risks, and the better benchmark is getting borrowing costs back up to neutral and deciding where to go from there.

"Given the pressures that I see, I would be comfortable with just each meeting, increasing by a quarter point," Evans while answering questions following a speech in Detroit. "Maybe a 50 helps. You know, I'm open minded about that. I really think the larger discussion is getting to neutral and then being able to look around and see yes, maybe that's good, maybe we need more."
