MNI BRIEF: No Hurry For NextGenEU Issuance As Rates Rise

The European Commission sees no need to accelerate issuance to fund its NextGenerationEU programme as rates rise, Director of Asset, Debt and Financial Risk Management Niall Bohan told the EU Parliament Budget Committee on Tuesday.

“We are implementing the programme in a way where our issuance is closely matched to what we spend. We do not see any need to unduly anticipate in the light of interest rate rises, which we consider to remain manageable in the short to medium term,” Bohan said.

“At this juncture that continues to be the policy that we implement as we prepare the funding plan for the first half of 2022,” he said, adding that the Commission would release its first six-monthly report on funding to the Parliament and EU states at the end of next week.
