MNI BRIEF: Top Off'l Urges Shanghai To Adopt Stricter Measures

MNI (Beijing)

Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, in charge of the country's efforts to contain several outbreaks around the country, told Shanghai to adopt a stricter attitude, more thorough measures, and swifter actions in accordance with the orders of the central leadership, state media reported.

Shanghai saw the largest-ever daily increase of infections after testing all its 25 million residents on Monday, with 13,354 cases reported. Shanghai's outbreak, with over 73,000 local cases since March, is bigger than what Wuhan faced at the height of the pandemic.

City authorities should quicken the building of makeshift hospitals, expand isolation venues and strictly follow guidelines to defeat Covid-19, Sun said after visiting quarantine centers, temporary hospitals and other facilities.
