MNI BRIEF: UK Govt Offers Further Help To Lockdown Hit Biz

LONDON (MNI)

The UK government will extend its scheme offering grants to businesses affected by the latest round of Covid-19 driven lockdowns, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak told the House of Commons Thursday.

Before today, new grants were only available to companies in Tier 3 areas, or firms forced to close under the latest social distancing restrictions. However, Sunak says some grants will now be available to firms in Tier 2 areas - firms not in areas forced to close, but that are badly affected by a drop in business.

Sunak also announced some increased payments to furloughed workers or those who have seen hours cut due to restrictions.
