MNI BRIEF: UK Hours Worked See Record Jump In 3 Months To Oct

Despite decreasing over the year as a whole, UK total hours worked in the three months to October saw a record increase from the low levels in the previous quarter, with the period covering a time when a number of coronavirus (COVID19) lockdown measures were eased, the Office for National Statistics said.

UK economic inactivity was estimated at 20.8%, 0.1 percentage points lower than the same period the previous year but largely unchanged compared with the previous quarter. The total number of weekly hours worked was 960.0 million, down 95.7 million hours on the same period the previous year but up a record 104.9 million hours compared with the previous quarter

The overall UK employment rate was estimated at 75.2%, 0.9 percentage points lower than a year earlier and 0.5 percentage points lower than the previous quarter.
