MNI BRIEF: Weidmann Says ECB's Policy Appropriate

The European Central Bank's policy settings are "currently appropriate", Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann told Boersen Zeitung in an interview published on Wednesday.

The eurozone recovery continues despite the recent upsurge in coronavirus cases, he said, calling on ECB officials to avoid generating expectations about future policy moves that it may not be able to meet. His comments came after ECB sources told MNI policymakers are debating whether to extend the EUR1.35 trillion Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme this year.
