MNI BRIEF: Yellen Talks Taxes In Call With UK's Sunak

WASHINGTON (MNI)

Newly sworn in U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Wednesday raised the issue of efficient and fair taxation on multilateral firms with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak on a call, according to a Treasury statement.

Yellen and Sunak discussed "the need to find multilateral solutions to many of the issues facing the global economy, including addressing the tax challenges of efficiently and equitably taxing the income of multinational firms," the statement said.

The UK's digital services tax affecting large American tech companies has been a sticking point for a trade deal between the two countries, while the U.S. continues to levy some tariffs on UK imports.
