In March, the Chicago SurveyTM asked firms “As labor costs remain high have you considered sourcing or adding to automation/artificial intelligence/digital technology in 2024?”

  • An equal proportion of respondents answered “Yes” and “No” (44% of respondents for each) whilst 11% reported ‘N/A.’
  • Some respondents noted that they saw AI as just a fashionable buzzword with little real meaning, while others noted that there had been projects that had begun in 2021 that had been delayed in their implementation due to chip shortages.
