MNI BRIEF: China Faces Trade Uncertainties On Virus Spread

China's overall trade surplus remained intact for a seventh straight quarter on recovering global demand for Chinese products, but a wider and quicker spread of the Omicron variant has added uncertainties for the outlook, a customs spokesman Li Kuiwen said on Wednesday.

Exports in March rose 14.7% y/y. March imports, however, made the first drop in 19 months, which customs said was due to the high base effect last year. The trade surplus for the first three months reached USD162.94 billion.
