LONDON (MNI) - There is no economic data on the Continent Monday and
housing market data will be the main focus in both the UK and the US.
The UK calendar will kick off at 0700GMT, with the release of the February
Nationwide House Price Index. At 0930GMT, the BBA January mortgage lending data
will be published.
ECB Executive Board member Benoit Coeure will speak at the first meeting of
the Working Group on Euro Risk-Free Rates organised by the ECB, in Frankfurt,
starting at 1000GMT.
At the same time, Bundesbak Board member Carl-Ludwig Thiele speaks at the
New Year's Reception 2018 of the Bremen's Bundesbank head office, in Hanover,
Deutschland.
Across the Atlantic, at 1300GMT, St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President
James Bullard will present on the U.S. Economy and Monetary Policy at the 34th
Annual NABE Economic Policy Conference in Washington, with audience Q&A.
Back in Europe, at 1400GMT, ECB President Mario Draghi will deliver his
introductory statement at the ECON Hearing at the European Parliament, in
Brussels.
The US data due at 1500GMT includes January new home sales and the building
permits revisions.
New home sales are expected to accelerate to a 647,000 annual rate in
January following a reversal in December. Unadjusted sales were still up 10.3%
from a year earlier. Home supply was modestly higher in December, so the months
supply rebounded to 5.7 months from 4.9 months in November. Even so, there
should be adequate homes available for sale when demand returns.
The Dallas Fed manufacturing survey will be released at 1530GMT.
BOE Dep Governor Jon Cunliffe speaks at Warwick University from 1800GMT.
Then, at 2015GMT, Federal Reserve Vice Chairman for Supervision Randal Quarles
speaks at the 34th Annual National Association for Business Economics Economic
Policy Conference in Washington, with audience Q&A.
